Church History

Calvary Community Church was was founded on February 25, 1979 in a home here in Aubrey, TX by Rev. Bill Miller and a small number of congregants that wanted a “Non-denominational” church in Aubrey, TX.  Shortly after that beginning date one of the men in the church donated 1.5 acres at 910 S. Hwy 377 where they together built a church debt-free with mostly volunteer labor under the direction of Pastor Miller.  Pastor Miller remained the church’s pastor until the spring of 1987 when he resigned to accept a pastorate call in Southeastern Kansas.

In April of that same year the church called Rev. Richard Martin to be its new pastor.  Shortly after his coming, Pastor Martin connected the church to “Word of Faith” church in Dallas, TX and became a “satellite” location for that ministry.  After the decline of that particular ministry, Pastor Martin then separated from “Word of Faith” and once again operated the church as an “independent” non-denominational church.  Pastor Martin chose to take a sabbatical for medical reasons in January of 1997 and at that time called on Rev. Jimmie D Brown, Jr to serve as an interim or “fill-in” assistant to him during his absence for surgery.  On his return from surgery in April of 1997, Pastor Martin announced his retirement from pasturing at the age of 62 with a desire to pursue other avenues of ministry in the Denton area.

Calvary Community Church then officially named Rev. Jimmie D Brown, Jr its new pastor on the first Sunday of June in 1997.  Pastor Jim, his wife, Michelle, along with sons Nicholas and Matthew, and a daughter Kyndal, continued the church as an independent non-denominational church and in 2000 changed the church’s name from Calvary Community Church to New Life Worship Center of Aubrey, TX.  Pastor Jim continued to align the church as an independent non-denominational church while he joined with the Full Gospel Fellowship of Ministers International based in Dallas, TX.  Pastor Jim also accepted the call to serve as the North Texas Area Director of the World Harvest Ministerial Church Fellowship under Pastor Rod Parsley and World Harvest Church based in Columbus, OH.  Under Pastor Jim’s leadership the church has continued to grow and has established itself as one of the larger churches in the Aubrey/Pilot Point/Crossroads area.

In October of 2006 Pastor Jim, along with the leadership and membership of New Life Worship Center of Aubrey, TX, chose to sell the existing building and 1.5 acres on Hwy 377 to the Aubrey Church of Christ.  After spending the next year in transition and meeting in different locations, New Life used the proceeds of the sale of their building and land to purchase their beautiful new facilities on Hwy 377 between Aubrey and Pilot Point at 11010 S. Hwy 377 Pilot Point, TX 76258.  New Life’s new building is 26,000 square feet on 19 acres where they are planning expansions to reach to as many people as possible with the glorious gospel of Christ.

Pastor Jim and Michelle are fully submitted to Pastor Damon Thompson of The Rock Ministries in Mobile, AL, and look to Pastor Damon for counsel and Godly leadership to facilitate the vision God has established for Northeast Denton County.

The future of New Life Worship Center is bright with Pastor Jim and Michelle’s 11 year anniversary approaching, and a trend of growth that is sure to continue to progress as it has since June of 1997.  Pastor Jim and Michelle were voted in with 16 members and a yearly average Sunday attendance of less than 35 people; presently, New Life Worship Center averages almost 200 in Sunday attendance and has continued growth in every facet of church and ministry life.  New Life and its growing congregation look forward to your being a part of its great history in the near future.
